DRI awarded innovative capacity building fund
Development Reality Institute (DRI), a local non-governmental youth-oriented organisation was selected as an innovative and catalytic capacity building initiative by the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) on the special occasion of the foundation’s 20th anniversary celebrations earlier this year in Kigali, Rwanda.
DRI’s project which was on strengthening youth capacity in climate change mitigation and adaptation, was among the top ten submissions for the ACBF Capacity Market Challenge. According to Mr. Verengai Mabika, DRI Country Coordinator, the recognition is an excellent opportunity for the capacity strengthening of African youth. “Receiving such recognition for us is an exceptional achievement. It gives us, as youth, the opening we need to establish capacity gaps and map ground-breaking strategies that will further strengthen our abilities on such topics as climate change, for investing in the youth is investing for a better future”, he said.
DRI also designed and runs the first virtual school on climate change in the region. The online based course is meant to raise awareness on climate change and development priorities in Africa. This project has received international and national recognition during its first year of existence. The Virtual School is winner of the World Summit Youth Award, the Stockholm Challenge, and two ICT Achievers Awards.
